Getting to Åland
There are daily travel options to Åland from both Sweden and Finland – whether by ferry or by air. The journey itself is part of the experience, especially if you travel through the beautiful archipelago with its countless islands and islets.
We recommend booking your tickets in advance, especially in the summer or if you are travelling with a car.
From Sweden
The fastest route to Åland is between Grisslehamn and Eckerö. The ferry with Eckerö Linjen takes about two hours, and Grisslehamn is approximately 1.5 hours north of Stockholm by car.
You can also travel from Stockholm to Mariehamn or Långnäs with Viking Line or Tallink Silja. The journey takes around 5.5 hours and passes mostly through the archipelago.
Another option is Finnlines, which departs from Kapellskär – about an hour north of Stockholm – and arrives in Långnäs in around 3.5 hours.
From Finland
Several ferry routes are available from Turku, Naantali, and Helsinki. Viking Line, Tallink Silja, and Finnlines offer regular departures throughout the day depending on the route.
Viking Line also operates the route Helsinki–Mariehamn–Stockholm.
Tallink Silja provides service between Turku and Stockholm via Mariehamn.
Flights to Åland
The fastest way to get to Åland is by air from Helsinki, Turku, or Stockholm Arlanda.
